Because I feel like bitching.
Anyone remember how I got a ticket in March for going 17mph over and tried to pay it in April and when I went to the courthouse they said they couldn’t the ticket in the system so wouldn’t let me pay? They said I was responsible for the ticket but didn’t know how I could pay it. Maybe you do remember. That was over 6 months ago. I had forgotten all about it.
At the beginning of October I received a certified letter telling me I failed to appear in court for this ticket. Um, what? My original court date was in April, I showed up and they didn’t have a record of my citation. Apparently I failed to appear at my second court date, which had been reset whenever they fixed the system and I was never notified. They claim they sent a subpoena — I never received it. They sent my FTA notice certified but they didn’t send my subpoena certified and they think they can penalize me for not knowing to show up? Fuckers.
So. My license will be suspended on Friday if I don’t pay 1. the ticket 2. the FTA fee and 3. a license reinstatement fee (even though I still have a license right now, so I’m paying a “not gonna suspend so no need to reinstate” fee). I couldn’t pay the citation and court fees via phone or online or by mail, I had to show up at the courthouse. Which I did. And now I’m trying to pay the reinstatement fee. I have a letter from DDS telling me I can pay online, it says “You can pay online at dds.ga.gov.” Or whatever. But nope. It won’t let me. I get to go to DDS tomorrow.
I know I shouldn’t have gotten a speeding ticket, so I guess I can’t technically complain but WTF. I did my due diligence. I tried to pay my shit and stay on top of this. Just because their computer system went down doesn’t mean I should be unduly punished, to the tune of my additional time and AN ADDITIONAL 300 DOLLARS OF FINES. I didn’t have time to appeal this because once I got the letter telling me to pay or lose my license, I only had 2 weeks to fix the situation. No one at the courthouse seemed to care that I tried to pay this 6 months ago and never received my subpoena, they just acted like I was trying to get out of something.
One day I will have better luck. This shit is the story of my life. I do something stupid then the universe makes it 20x more annoying.
