I got a few comments saying the same thing but it’s done, they are at the printer. And so this was one of the things that I discussed in depth, partially with Brooke, but others as well really. It’s been less than a week since I was laid off but these cards were highly considered (10 email and in person discussions about all the components) and well thought-out. While I do not think I need to defend her (or my) style choices, I think that my reasons for keeping the quotes are valid and interesting.
- It is not my actual title. The title is there for interpretation. I am Sales. I am Marketing. I am Public Relations. I am Social Media. I have experience in all these things. The title is a catch-all. I will be all these things and more — for you!
- It fits with the style of the card.
- ROBERTS is so large and bold, the quotes set my title apart, draw attention to it. It is an actual, deliberate design choice. When I told the printer today that my mother thought I should lose the quotes, he talked me back into keeping them. (I went by today because he wanted my approval on the Pantone color, it was perf!) He’s done hundreds of business cards in his years of printing and thought that Brooke’s design was one of his absolute favorites, from top to bottom. He thought on a style and design standpoint it made sense. I trust people’s opinions that know a lot about these things.
- Trusting the professionals who have more design experience than me, especially when I liked the choice from the get-go is essential. I had doubts, but there is a process. Everything is deliberate, nothing is arbitrary.
- I am a very detail-oriented person. It is a detail that I personally like. Fits within my persona.
