On Friday I glimpsed into a middle school. I volunteered at Carleigh’s school with a few other friends (Marisa, James, Everett). We manned the dance off room for KIPP South Fulton Academy’s Fall Festival and judged children on their ability to “bring it.” In the dance sense of bringing it. Duh. It was just like Dance Moms. That’s a show right?
Judging children against other children is hard. For me at least. I’m not ruthless enough to tell a child that they have no moves. While judging, I picked up Dougie pointers, learned the Wobble, perfected my Cat Daddy and Beef’d it Up.
I was exhausted after 4 hours with the 5th and 6th graders. How. the. hell. do people do this every day? RESPECT for all the teachers out there. Holy shit. My job can be stressful and I occasionally feel like I work myself silly (I couldn’t even take 2 full days off, I had shit to attend to on my PTO time), but that’s nothing. Also, it had been a good while since I’d been in a classroom. Fun stuff.
My main takeaway: Ms. Roberts needed a drink.
