The Voting Bug
I love to vote, I’ve voted in most elections I could vote for in the past 9 years and I will continue to do so as long as I can. Hell, there were people in the Alzheimer’s facility I used to work in that still voted. I plan to be like that and I hate to think I am unique. Lately I’ve talked to some friends who have never voted, who aren’t gonna vote next week, who aren’t even registered and it makes me so pissed off. One friend told me they weren’t registered because they didn’t want to get jury duty. I, being weird and odd always, want to get jury duty. I’ve only had it once but it wasn’t that bad. I think it’s interesting.
Voting really is important and I don’t think I need to tell you why. Becoming part of the process is essential, and the right to vote is not something to take for granted. When my girlfriend told me she wasn’t even registered, I almost lost it but I try to shy away from screaming at my friends’ about feminism, politics and other such topics, it’s not that effective and I’m not good at not being condescending. I can get over a friend not voting I guess, but I will certainly try to gently make it clear that they should. I could never seriously date a man who didn’t vote though.
Next week, it’s very important for everyone to take the time to make it to their polling place and log their vote. It’s not dorky to vote, it’s not a hassle to vote, it’s essential.
