But you have good hair!
So I met a new friend the other night, we’re twitter buddies and he was in town so we went to get drinks and somehow got on the topic of being losers in high school. He said that he was and I was ready to regale with tales of my dorkiness when he goes, “there’s no way you were dorky — you’ve got good hair.”
For one, I didn’t always have good hair (I used to be dye and cut happy, went through some crazy stages). But secondly, I also had horrible acne and was as loud, bold and obnoxious then as I am now (a slightly better look on a 27 year old then a 17 year old). I also got called DOUBLE DEEZ as I walked down the hall every day, not as fun as you may imagine. I did have friends and enjoyed high school, though my hair had little to do with it.
So I couldn’t decide if his judgment of my hair meant he is shallow or just completely clueless until I just saw that stupid Taylor Swift commercial, “when I was in school [like 2 years ago] there was a boy who liked another girl — she had straight hair.” While TaySwift is not a great barometer for how the world thinks, it makes me wanna ask: does my having stick-straight, blonde hair mean y’all think things just must go right for me somehow? Is this really a thing? Confused.
I’ve never given much thought to my what my hair means/conveys to the outside world, but maybe that’s because I have privileged hair so I don’t have to think about it?
The world is weird.
