Words that killed a relationship
In relationships that end there is usually a trigger moment when you start to think that “this isn’t go to work”. You might fight it for awhile but eventually that one moment keeps playing back in your head over and over, and eventually you just know there is no way around it, you know that there is something fundamental wrong in the relationship and the best path is to end it.
Here’s a trigger that I remember from way back:
”And when we have kids we’ll bring them up as Roman Catholics. After all you won’t mind as you don’t believe in anything.”
Any more?
On that same theme, and a few of these were actually said by the same person and a few would be dealbreakers to me but are more hypothetical:
- “I don’t believe in abortion. Life starts at fertilization.”
- “I think most women see their main purpose in life as giving birth and being mothers.”
- “I’d rather my wife not work.”
- “I just can’t stand football.”
- “As a white man, I have been at a disadvantage. Affirmative action has really hurt me.”
- “I don’t believe in sex before marriage.”
- “Feminism is kind of stupid though. Is it still necessary?”
- “I’d vote for Bush again if given the chance.”
- “All women deep down really want to be controlled.”
- “I’d much rather marry a virgin, even though I’m not one.”
- “I’m not big on traveling. What’s the point in seeing the world?”
