The Senate stripped the bill of the “I Believe” plate this morning but left open the possibility of adding the plate back in as well as a “Horse Country” plate when the measure comes up for a full vote.

That would make the bill identical to one awaiting a vote in the House.

Proceeds from the extra $25 for the “I Believe” plate would go to an organization that supports faith-based education programs.

Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller of Cooper City warned his colleagues that the bill would not pass if it includes the Christian-themed plate.

“If you want those little lighthouses to continue to blink in the night, then you don’t want to jeopardize Sen. Fasano’s good bill,” said Geller, who is Jewish.
