As with all disasters and deaths and other such news, there are always the motherfucker dickheads who say the most insensitive dumb shit. I don’t know if I’ve ever been guilty of it? Maybe? I’m sure someone knows. Anyways, I’ve had this conversation with people before but you don’t HAVE to say something about every celebrity who dies. Maybe just if they meant something to you? And you don’t have to be a dick about actual disasters just because you’re lucky and they’re not happening to you.
The amount of “another reason not to live in NYC,” “the NE is so special that new TV is cancelled for a hurricane, that would never happen here,” and “wipe out all those hipsters in Bklyn hurricane” tweets tonight are really pathetic. Do the people who do such things think they’re amusing? How would you feel if you were huddled in your apt, no power, candles and freaking out because of flooding and damage to your home and you check twitter for news updates and someone you didn’t realize was a dick was bitching about not getting to watch a new How I Met Your Mother? Or you have loved ones in the area and are super worried about them and their safety and well-being and people are downplaying that?
Perspective. I wish many would gain some.
