Celebrate me! And my wedding!

So my ex and I were discussing weddings yesterday. We’re still best friends so things come up. Anyways, one of his best guy friends is getting married on July 3, 2010 in Austin, TX. I met the bride and groom last August at another one of their friend’s weddings and the girl is very sweet but frankly, she stole my wedding date.

While discussing the perils of a July 4th weekend wedding, I lit into the bride about how inappropriate it was to schedule a holiday wedding only 4 months in advance, “people have plans already!” Unfortunately my ex has quite the memory…

My “dream” has always been to hold a July 4th wedding. I’m just pissed this girl beat me to it. My birthday is July 7th and no one can ever celebrate with me because of the holiday, so my thought was having a wedding that week would mean my birthday would be huge, for once. Summer born children know how annoying it can be, you’re not in school during your big day which means nothing big goes on during school or it’s lumped together with all the other summer birthdays. It’s a complex really, surely I’m not the only one.

Anyways, the idea of having a wedding near that day sounded so appealing to me that I had discussed it with my ex at some point. Dream wedding: serve damn good barbecue and good beer, fireworks and a hot dancefloor, Americana and a country/class reception. I’ve talked about it frequently and apparently some people remember me discussing just this scenario. But seriously, holiday weekend weddings can be good and bad… Schedule it far enough in advance and it’s a welcome vacay, too soon and you’re encroaching on already paid for plans.

And that’s more than I’ve ever postulated on weddings in print format. Ever, ever. My bad. Blame it on the rain.
