Tassie Aycock lives on Sylvia Drive and saw the students gathered at a makeshift memorial for Reed. The mother of four has a daughter who is a freshman at Harrison.

“It’s devastating,” Aycock said. “Because I’m a mom, I drive by and just want to cry. [Teenagers] think they’re invincible, but really they aren’t. It could be any of us.”

I have something annoying to say: why do women do this? “Because I’m a mom… I just want to cry.” I’m not a mom but I would cry too. This is a sad story but while reading this article that quote just bugged me. Becoming a mother does not somehow make you better than me or more capable of empathy or anything. You gave birth, and you understand how hard it would be to lose a child, but we all know when something is devastating.

End rant.
