It’s been my experience that men have no idea what it’s like to be a woman in public space. Yes, not all men are rapists. Hell, not all men are creepers. But there’s no way to know that in the couple of seconds you have to determine how to respond to a situation. Due to the fact that men take it upon themselves to pursue the sex, women are constantly on the defensive. It’s difficult to switch gears on a case by case basis. There’s a constant question of, “Is he bored and making conversation? Is he hitting on me? Is he a woman hating fuckhead with a windowless van?” Women are not required to respond to your advances in a polite and courteous fashion just because you’re a Nice Guy.
